La differenza di etnia porta i due a dover nascondere la propria relazione nonostante i forti sentimenti. Quando per\u00f2 la donna viene violentata, questo viene preso dalle forze inglesi locali come pretesto per agire contro il popolo indiano, dando\u00a0cos\u00ec inizio a una serie interminabile di drammi, lotte e ingiustizie che vanno a creare uno spaccato storico molto importante ma non cos\u00ec tanto approfondito.<\/p>\n<p>Leggere &#8220;Il gioiello della corona&#8221; \u00e8 stato davvero complesso e impegnativo. Fin da subito, l&#8217;autore immerge chi legge in un&#8217;atmosfera esotica e al tempo stesso di terrore e tensione, con descrizioni minuziose che necessitano di tutta l&#8217;attenzione possibile. Questo rallenta la narrazione ma al tempo stesso ne fortifica le fondamenta, perch\u00e9 delinea chiaramente il contesto storico di met\u00e0 900. L&#8217;intento di Scott \u00e8 quello di creare una storia che possa denunciare ci\u00f2 che a prescindere di negativo \u00e8 successo in India in quel periodo, cercando di trasmettere quanto l&#8217;occupazione inglese sia stata ingombrante, tanto da limitare la libert\u00e0 della popolazione locale, soffocandone la stessa cultura. Il suo infatti non \u00e8 un romanzo volto a esaltare una parte piuttosto che l&#8217;altra, ma ha l&#8217;intento di mostrare l&#8217;umanit\u00e0 e le persone che hanno vissuto sulla propria pelle dolori indicibili.
